So before we feature our next real wedding, here are some tips that you must keep in mind while finalising your bridal looks with your hairstylist. Also have a look at what some of our real brides opted for on their big day!
1. HAIR TYPE
To ensure that you get the best hairstyle for your wedding day, make sure you go with a hairstyle that suits your hair texture and density.
FINE HAIR TEXTURE
Almost all hairstyles varying from open hair to a perfectly neat bun at the back shall look great and be styled easily if you have a fine hair texture. But fine hair lacks volume and density, so if you’re looking for a fuller look, you can add volume to your hair by blow drying, back combing or puffing your hair. A hairstyle that is heavier on top will look better when dealing with this hair type.
HARD HAIR TEXTURE
If your hair texture is hard and course, a sleek hair style with do wonders to your look. For your wedding day, it is advisable to tie up the hair in a neat bun or braid. If you wish to keep them open, opt for a haircut that will reduce the coarseness of the hair. Razor cut and layer cuts are perfect to reduce the volume and hard texture of the hair.
If you have curly hair that is thick and course, razor cuts and layer cuts are not advisable. Instead opt for chemical treatment like smoothening or rebonding that will take away 20-30% density of your thick curly hair.
WAVY HAIR
If you have nice luscious wavy hair, lucky you! J Wavy hair is most suitable for bridal hairstyles as the natural texture of the hair can be maximised using hair products to create different effects. Wavy hair can be blow dried in to a straight hair look or scrunched for a curly hair effect. One can also add layers to the hair through different haircuts and add highlights and lowlights with hair colours and shine enhancing products for maximum effect.
2. FACE-CUT
If you have a broad face cut and heavy cheeks, it is advisable to keep some hair loose in front of the face or go for side flicks. For small and round face cuts, high buns and chignons look classy and chic!
If you have a square face cut that lacks length; a hairstyle with a bit of height added on top (like a high bun) will look glamorous and edgy! Brides with a round face cut can also opt for a heighted hairstyle that adds an illusion of height and makes the face look longer. In this case as well, side bangs can be used to add softness to the face.
If you have a long face cut or an oval shaped face cut, most hairstyles will suit your face and you can take the liberty of going with your favourite styles.
MWP TIP: If your fiancé is not much taller than you, avoid high hairstyles like a high raised bun or heightened puffs. In the opposite scenario where your fiancé is taller than you, this is a good way of creating an illusion of length.
3. OCCASSION
For those of you, who are pinterest-addicted like us, look up some of the latest bridal hairstyle trends this season before meeting your stylist. Once you’re more aware of different matrimony-appropriate hairstyles, discuss the looks for all your functions beforehand with your stylist and dress your hair differently on all the days as per the occasion. Natural, soft hairstyles will look great on your mehendi and sangeet while chignons, buns (juda ) or braids will look ethereal on your wedding day. Many Indian brides wear a maang-tika on their wedding day, so if you’re one of them, the classic bun is the most suitable hairstyle for you.

The bun or juda is a common and classic hairstyle for Indian brides. Many of you would also need to cover your head with a dupatta on your wedding day, which are mostly made of netted fabric these days and are see through. Since the bun is going to be visible through the dupatta, make sure it is neat and stylish! Accessorize it with Swarovski studs or fresh flowers to take the simple bun to a new level altogether.
MWP TIP: Try not to opt for an elaborate hair style as weddings are tiring and if your hair is pulled back tight, it might cause a headache after a few hours. Also try keeping the hairstyle as manageable as possible. For instance, if you have a heavy chunni, compensate with a simple bun to manage the weight.
4. ACCESSORIZE!
Step up your wedding hairdo with stylish accessories or head pieces like hair pins and diamond studs. Accessorizing your hair with fresh flowers and studs also adds romance and softness to your wedding look. Head pieces and jewelled studs add oomph and sophistication to any simple hairstyle.
