As you all know, at MWP we celebrate weddings day in and day out. Wedding ideas, wedding trends, wedding planning tips- and everything in between. But nothing melts our heart more than a cross-community real wedding feature. And when the wedding is photographed by one of our favourite photographers- it’s just a double treat! Have you ever looked at a photographers wedding portfolio and felt like you’ve understood the story, felt the emotion behind it, or have been transported to that time and place? That’s exactly how I felt when I first saw this warm and beautiful wedding on Varun’s facebook page.
A college romance! That was the beginning of Sindhu and Sushant’s love story far away from home. Sindhu is an author who is born and raised in Chennai. Sushant on the other hand, is a Gujurati business man from Mumbai. Sindhu and Sushant met in Edinburgh during their post-grad years at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. They quickly became best friends, and as time progressed their relationship melted into love. Among other things, they shared a deep love for film. This prompted them to set up an independent film company when they got back to India called Caphor Cinema. Their first film ‘Ramanujan’ was released earlier this year. How cool is that!
Talented and gorgeous, they looked absolutely fantastic throughout their wedding festivities. Enjoy their fusion wedding photographed by Varun Suresh. I can promise you that it’s super cute!
Sindhu and Sushant’s fusion wedding was a conglomeration of Tamil and Gujarati traditions. For the Gujurati styled sangeet, Sindhu wore a fabulous cream and red lehenga that she designed herself. Sushant looked dapper in a cream sherwani and dhoti.
The wedding day was as per Sindhu’s Tamilian traditions at GT Grand in Chennai. Decked from head to toe, Sindhu dazzled in a maroon Kanchipuram silk saree. With flowers and jewels in her hair, a striking maatha patti, and a beautiful nose ring- she was all set to get married to the man of her dreams! The wedding captured the fun and colour and effervescent romance of South Indian weddings- a heartfelt ceremony, laid back atmosphere, doting family and friends! Isn’t it beautiful?
For their reception in Mumbai, the couple choose Hotel Sea Princess in Juhu. Sindhu wore a beautiful lime green lehenga with rhinestones and Swarovski crystals that glittered through the evening. Her makeup was natural, and she accented her hair with graceful white flowers. Sea Princess played the perfect host to this sea-side reception.
Hope you enjoyed this sweet wedding by Varun Suresh. We sincerely thank Shot Stories by Varun Suresh for sharing this wedding with us.
FROM THE BRIDE:
Hi Sindhu. Your wedding is just so beautiful. Was it tough planning a wedding that brings together two drastically different cultures?
Well initially it seemed tough but our family was very supportive. All the events were planned by my mother and mother-in-law respectively. The décor for the wedding was done around an antique Tamil theme, the Sangeet had a Gujarati theme, while the reception had neutral modern feel to it.
What did you enjoy most about planning your wedding?
Shopping, of course! With my mother and mother-in-law’s knowledge of traditional jewellery and costumes, we tried to collect elegant and unique designs from both the Tamil and Gujarati traditions. We shopped in Chennai, Kanchipuram for Tamil silk wedding saris, in Mumbai and Surat for Gujarati diamond jewellery, lovely Patolas. Everything from nose-studs to bindis were researched and made to correspond the respective culture!
For the wedding I wore traditional Tamil silk saris as per the cultural norm. I had chosen an antique theme, so I had to research in the internet and with books to find patterns of the bygone era. Then I set out to Kanchipuram to find the type. For the sangeet, I wore a lovely lehenga designed by me and my husband’s cousin – Devanshi Shah.
Your wedding photos are beyond beautiful. What made you decide on Varun Suresh to cover your wedding photography?
Varun Suresh is a long time friend, and a wonderful photographer. He captures great moments, and so very naturally. His knowledge of lighting and grading is brilliant. I wanted portraits of close family and friends, apart from portraits and candid photos of Sushant and me. Varun did an excellent job – he captured the essence of our wedding celebrations – the merging of cultures. Moreover, every photo of Varun’s looks like a piece of art.
I cannot agree more!! 🙂 🙂
